Description & Requirements
The Social Media Co-ordinator reports to the Manager, Marketing and Communications Strategy and is responsible for the day-to-day management and coordination of Marketing & Undergraduate Recruitment (MUR) content for our client's social media channels. They will help plan, develop, execute and evaluate organic and paid social media content and strategies to enhance our client's engagement and reputation with key social influencers. T


Planning, Communication and Content Creation
  • Plan, develop, coordinate, deliver and evaluate organic and paid content for future undergraduate students and their key influencers on social media platforms
  • Develop organic and paid content for various social media properties
  • Responsible for writing, editing and scheduling social media content
  • Create visual assets (e.g., photography, video, animations, illustrations) for social media
  • Develop social media content calendar
  • Conduct environmental scans and competitive analyses
  • Responsible for and contributes to a library of shared content
  • Stay current with social media best practices and emerging platforms

Social Media Monitoring
  • Using technology and native platforms, monitor online communities, student blogs and other social media platforms to identify content that may need to be addressed due to reputational risk, as well as identifying emerging trends
  • Track and measure campaigns impact, present findings and make recommendations to improve the success of future organic and paid content
Quality Control
  • Ensure excellence and consistency in social media communications
  • Develop reports that demonstrate the reach and impact of social media initiatives
  • Remain current on issues, trends, technologies, demands and approaches in digital marketing to determine and advise on implementing new initiatives as applicable
  • Develop and align social media strategies
  • Ensure the branding standards are maintained and that messaging and style guidelines are consistent in all social media communications

  • Writes and produces original content


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience preferably in communications, marketing, media studies, advertising, business
  • 3+ years of social media management experience (ideally creating organic and paid content on multiple channels) and 1+ years of project management experience
  • Skilled designer experienced with creative design software, videography/editing, photography and digital content creation
  • Proven ability and experience in remaining engaged and knowledgeable on emerging social media storytelling best practices, visual storytelling and knowledge of how to optimize content for horizontal and vertical platforms
  • Skilled writer and editor
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of online communities and social media platforms
  • Knowledge of new and emerging digital communications platforms and how they can be integrated across multiple marketing channels
  • Proven ability, experience and strong working knowledge and understanding of integrated marketing strategies within a highly complex institution/organization and competitive marketplace
  • An eye for effective design, graphic balance, and the impact of layout and messaging in communication materials
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with a solid knowledge of both English grammar and the specialized requirements associated with writing for social and digital media
  • Clear understanding of and experience in writing for a student audience, including knowledge of the use of research to acquire an understanding of their styles and approaches
  • Knowledge of student recruitment marketing and enrolment management principles (as defined by industry enrolment management experts such as Noel Levitz), the University brand, and the significant forces that influence Waterloo’s quest for high-quality undergraduate students
  • Demonstrated understanding of best practices in accessibility standards for social media (e.g. AODA) and testing
  • Strong organizational skills coupled with the ability to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and excel in a fast-paced environment characterized by changing priorities
  • Ability to build consensus, foster teamwork among a variety of stakeholders, and lead integrated project teams
  • Aptitude for translating technical concepts into simple language or visuals to facilitate the understanding by colleagues, leaders, and other audiences
  • Keen sense of responsive client service
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Intermediate use of the following tools: Social media scheduling platform (SocialBakers), Adobe Creative Suite, Project Management Software (Smartsheet), Apples Pages / Microsoft Word, Apple Numbers / Microsoft Excel, Apple Keynote / Microsoft Powerpoint
  • Intermittent work outside the normal operating hours of the institution and occasional travel
